It started a decade ago with one aim: to boycott Israel as a non-violent movement in order to defend the Palestinian cause. The campaign now has thousands of volunteers worldwide, lobbying to sever ties with Israel.

BDS has managed to gain strength in recent years. Some Israeli officials, who simply ignored it, now view as a “strategic threat”. What worries Israel most is that some of the movement’s positions on goods produced in the West Bank settlements are now being embraced by some European governments.

A counter campaign against BDS is being mounted in the US, with presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton joining the chorus.

So, what’s the true impact of BDS? And does it help Palestinians?

Good to see MSM (yes, AJ is part of the MSM) give airtime to an articulate and senior Palestinian like Husam Zumlot, who succeeded in making the revolting Dan Diker appear exactly the arrogant little supremacist Hasbara-monger that he is – “Judea and Samaria” my arse! Towards the end, Diker had to deflect the real question from Finigan, which was, “How badly is BDS impacting the Israeli economy?” by borrowing heavily from Naftali Bennett’s Book of Psalms (mobile `phone chips, irrigation systems). We may thus infer that BDS is already affecting the Israeli economy adversely, which is why it has been upgraded to a “strategic threat” by Bibi and the Likudniks; and the call has gone out to their apologists in the USA to undermine it. La Clinton’s position on BDS (and other matters Israeli) for the benefit of Haim Saban and his ilk recalls Winston Churchill’s conversation with a well-known socialite:
Churchill: “Madam, would you sleep with me for £5,000,000?”
Woman: “My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course… “
Churchill: “Would you sleep with me for £5?”
Woman: “Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?”
Churchill: “Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.”
